Women in Tech: Why Representation Still Matters

Women in tech deserve more than a seat — they deserve the mic. Representation still matters. Here’s why.

Latina leadership in tech is still the exception, not the rule — and that needs to change.
When I began conceptualizing and leading the development of Biwitech — a retail hardware line within Bigwise — I knew I wasn’t just building technology. I was creating space as a Latina leader in an industry where we’re still underrepresented. This is why representation in tech leadership still matters — and why visibility can redefine what’s possible.

A Seat at the Table — and a Voice in the Room

When I first entered the tech industry, I did it through finance. As a certified public accountant, I managed numbers, vendors, and structure. But everything changed when I started attending retail innovation events like NRF.

There, surrounded by the world’s top hardware manufacturers, I saw where the decisions were really being made — and I knew I didn’t want to stay behind the scenes.
So I moved into sales, into strategy, into building relationships with those same manufacturers. And eventually, I helped shape what would become Biwitech — the hardware innovation line inside Bigwise, created to power our Stellar software with devices we could proudly call our own.

That’s when my journey as a builder truly began.

The Power of Representation

Why does it matter if there are more women in tech? Because representation changes what people believe is possible.

When women see other women leading product development, sitting at the strategy table, or making hardware decisions — it shifts the story.
It says: This space is yours too.

Breaking Barriers, Not Just Glass Ceilings

My journey hasn’t followed a straight line — and that’s precisely the point.
From finance to tech, I’ve had to navigate industries where I was often underestimated, overlooked, or simply not expected.

But those challenges didn’t slow me down — they sharpened my focus. They fueled a mission: to create technology with purpose, and to make sure more women have access to build, lead, and innovate.

Leading with Purpose

Today, as Chief Biwitech Development Officer at Bigwise, I help lead a hardware division that designs retail-focused solutions — from kiosks to digital signage to POS terminals — used by real businesses every day.

But leadership isn’t just about specs or roadmaps. It’s about mentoring other women, advocating for inclusive hiring, and showing that building great tech and building great culture are not mutually exclusive.

What Comes Next

Representation isn’t a trend. It’s a responsibility.
I’ll keep showing up, building boldly, and creating systems that leave doors open behind me.

Because the future of tech shouldn’t just be smart — it should be inclusive.
